Bootcamp

Boot camp is a quick moving whole-body workout that mimics interval training to burn calories and build muscle. It is efficient way to combine strength and cardio moves in one class.

Beginner

This hour-long class emphasizes range of motion about the joint and helps to improve balance and flexibility. Mindful breathing helps participants release stress and feel energized. We work on posture and pay special attention to stretching the neck, back and shoulders.

Beginner-Moderate

 

Participants use small, medium, heavy weights and resistance bands through a series of multi-functional movement to help increase muscle and bone density. Squats, lunges, and plyometric movements improve balance, flexibility, and ankle stabilization. Easy to follow active recovery dancing is included throughout the workout.  

HIIT

HIIT is a method that uses short bursts of high energy movements interspersed with lower intensity exercises. Regular HIIT can reverse the declining ability of our cells to generate energy. Age related deterioration of the muscle cells can also be reversed. Core work on the floor is incorporated into each class.

Indoor cycling is a cardiovascular workout that strengthens your heart and several muscle groups in your legs, backside, and core. Spinning can boost metabolism and increases your brain’s ability to release happiness hormones.

TRX

TRX stands for Total Body Resistance Exercise. TRX bands suspended from the ceiling allows for assistance and resistance for effective workouts that strengthen the entire body. TRX is an excellent way to improve balance, increase self confidence and enjoy being with others.  

Longevity

Beginner-Moderate

 

This 30-minute class combines cardiovascular movement and weights all while listening to your favorite songs for the day. Exercises are performed both seated and standing. The movements are based on the four movements of Longevity: push, pull, squat and hinge.

Graceful Aging Wellness Center is expanding it’s programming to feature activities and events woven in and around the Laurel Highlands. The Ligonier Valley is brimming with history, nature, and talented individuals. From our charming shops and eclectic eateries to our tree lined streets, Ligonier is the place we are happy to call home. Join us as we create and connect to enhance everyday living through the Seven Dimensions of Wellness: Social, Emotional, Intellectual, Environmental, Physical, Vocational and Spiritual.

Walks & Talks

Description: Meet at different areas throughout Ligonier Valley for a breath of fresh air and casual conversations with friends old and new as you take a 30-minute walk. Easy to moderate terrain, breathing breaks, bring water.

Cost: Free

Dates: Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. from June 10, 2021 to September 30, 2021. On June 10 we will meet at Mellon Park next to Giant Eagle in Ligonier. Check our Facebook page for details.

Pencil Sketching

Description: Visual Arts Educator, Amy Roadman, will lead you through the beginning elements of the five main skills of sketching. Each session is unique so come to one or come to them all!  This session is focused on drawing eyes. 

Costs: Member: $20   Non-Member: $25  (Sketchbook Kit is available for $15 and includes sketchbook, ebony pencil, kneaded eraser, and drawing pen)

Trip the Light Fantastic

Description: A once monthly mixer featuring DJ Mike Long playing the classics from the 30’s through the 70’s. Sway with the music while meeting and greeting. Light snacks and beverages are included.

Goat Yoga with Full Circle Goat Co.

Description: Love Goats? Always wanted to try Yoga? Here’s your chance to do it all! Whether you are a yogi at heart or just want to hang with the goats, Graceful Aging’s Amy Heben, from Full Circle Goat Co., is going to bring you both! Open to all! Light refreshments after.

Hiking in the Laurel Highlands

Description: Experience all our mountains have to offer! Open to all ages, please be advised we will be hiking trails around our state parks. There are rocks, roots, and wildlife! Discover the beauty of each season with a guided hike in Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring. Terrain will be easy to moderate, and hikes will be an hour long. Please wear appropriate clothing and water.

Caregiver Happiness Hour

Fall Prevention with Physical Therapist from Bethlen Home Health

Description: Join Bethlen’s own team of Physical Therapists from Bethlen Home Health to learn about Fall Prevention. This six-week class starts September 16 at 10:30am. Participants will receive a Risk Assessment to determine the most beneficial balance sequence. Sessions will be held at GAWC.

Beginning in October

Diabetes Prevention Program Group Lifestyle Balance

Description: Join Pharmacist Susan Anthony and Wellness Coach Cathy Graham for a yearlong program that will help lower your risk of becoming diabetic. Participants must be pre-diabetic. The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) was established by the University of Pittsburgh and is scientifically proven to work when the healthy lifestyle changes recommended are implemented. Although the changes you will see occur slowly, they can last a lifetime!  Participants must be at least 18 years of age and Pre-Diabetic, Diabetic, or at Risk for Diabetes. This program includes assessment and physical activity coaching. 

Cost: Member: $60    Non-Member: $80

All About the Bee’s

Description: Meet Jim Douglas, founder, owner, and keeper of the bees at Huckle Bee Farm. Jim takes raw honey to a whole new level by infusing it with different fruits and vegetables. He is a passionate beekeeper with a knack for storytelling. This presentation will be held in the Lifelong Learning Center at GAWC.
